Summary

Approximately 1 in 100,000 receiving the Pfizer COVID vaccine develop allergic-type reactions. This has led to heightened public concern that could impact overall vaccine uptake.

By determining the cause of vaccine allergy and this will allay unnecessary fears. Some allergic reactions, may be caused by one of the specific ingredients within the Pfizer vaccine known as polyethylene glycol, or PEG.

We aim to investigate people developing allergic reactions to COVID vaccines in order to identify the cause and determine whether they can have a second dose of the same, or different vaccine.

We will also investigate whether an allergic reaction to the vaccine reduces the efficacy of the immune response.
