Summary
Brain complications can affect up to 20-30% of patients who have been in hospital with COVID-19. There is growing evidence that COVID-19 is linked to ongoing impairment in people’s thinking ability (cognition). We want to better understand the impact of cognitive impairment following COVID-19 on people’s quality of life. We also want to understand the risk factors and what the causes may be. The study will investigate the patterns of cognitive impairment in patients with COVID-19, both with and without brain complications. This will be achieved using data from cognitive tasks carried out by participants as well as blood samples, questionnaire answers about participant’s mental and physical health, records of participant’s time in hospital and, where available, brain imaging data.
