Summary
The purpose of this study is to find out whether genetic variation in the amount of insulin we release into blood could influence fat metabolism.
This study is seeking to explore factors which may lead to an increased risk in the development of Type 2 Diabetes. In particular the study is looking at the relationship between common genetic variation which determines the function of insulin producing beta-cells in the pancreas and fat levels in the blood, in leg muscles, the liver and the belly.
Participation: For this study we recruited 55 volunteers from the Cambridge BioResource to attend two appointments, including an overnight stay. During the visits volunteers, gave blood samples, had an MRI scan and tests relating to how fast body fat and sugar is used.
Organisation: This study is organised by Professor David Dunger from the School of Clinical Medcine and the University of Cambridge.
