The NIHR Sheffield BioResource Centre is delivered by the NIHR Sheffield BRC in partnership with the NIHR Sheffield CRF.
The Community Impact Award was given to the team in recognition of their hard work and dedication to the Improving Black Health Outcomes BioResource programme, a study aimed at understanding health conditions affecting people from Black communities in the UK, to improve prognosis for common and rare health conditions in these communities.
Ruth and Amara work extensively with various communities in Sheffield to establish trusting relationships and an open communication channel to raise awareness and highlight the importance of research.
Commitment to inclusive research
The IBHO BioResource recruits new volunteers via a network of more than 50 hospital and GP sites across England, as well as at local events and workshops, working together with local community organisations.
With more than 3,500 volunteers already signed up since launching in September 2024, the IBHO BioResource continues to grow as a valuable health research resource.
