D-CYPHR reaches over half of the saliva sample target!

Thousands of volunteers have donated their spit to support children’s health research.

D-CYPHR, Egality Health and Community Organisations

Thank you to our fantastic volunteers who have helped D-CYPHR (The DNA, Children + Young People’s Health Resource) to reach over half of our sample target in just two years, six months ahead of schedule.

By signing up, families are helping to provide clues for diabetes, mental health conditions, heart disease, rare diseases, immune conditions and many more.

Volunteers

So far, over 11,000 young volunteers have joined D-CYPHR, part of the NIHR BioResource and in partnership with the NHS. Without families signing up, researchers can’t pioneer new treatments and create better care for the future generation of children.

Diversity in research

A huge part of our success has been the impactful partnerships we have built with community organisations: Black Health Initiative (BHI), Caribbean and African Health Network (CAHN), South Asian Health Action (SAHA) and Inclusive North. Our community partners have ensured that we have representation from diverse communities by supporting and championing D-CYPHR at community events, workshops and in person learning sessions. We are all working together to help tackle health inequalities and make research relevant to everyone. Thank you to Egality Health for supporting this work.

Ambassadors

We are grateful to have a fantastic group of Young and Parent Ambassadors who help spread the word about D-CYPHR. Our Ambassadors are a voluntary public engagement group run in partnership with the charity Anna Freud. The Ambassadors attend events, meetings and help shape our programme by providing us with feedback on how we can improve and raise more awareness of children's health research.

NHS hospital sites

There are over 20 hospitals across the country that are now actively recruiting for D-CYPHR in clinics and at specific events. The staff are dedicated to strengthening our mission on deciphering some of the most pressing health challenges.

What’s next for D-CYPHR?

We may have hit over half of our saliva sample target, but we can’t stop there. We have had over 11,000 people sign up to donate their spit, so if you have signed up but haven't sent us your sample yet, please do! If you’ve lost or didn’t receive your sample pack, please get in touch with us at dcpyhr@bioresource.nihr.ac.uk.

If you’re interested signing up and want to play your part in health research, you can find out more on our website.
